Merry Mixers
ABOUT US
The Merry Mixers Square Dance Club is a social, non-profit organization that supports and promotes the activities of square and round dancing. Both of these types of dancing are offered at our regular dances, which are held on the 2nd Saturday, September through May. The club also offers beginner square dance lessons in order to keep our membership fluid and enthusiastic.
The club was founded in 1952, by Frank and Maxine Simpson. They taught between 8 and 12 coupes how to square dance in their basement for years. Frank also became a caller and taught many other callers throughout his career. The club has gone through many changes and many, many dancers in these past 60 years, and our current membership reflects a wide variety of ages, professions and personalities, which is what makes it FUN!
Square dancing is a world-wide activity, so no matter where you are--new area, state or country-- you can find a dance and meet new people. Here in this area, there are clubs in Fort Morgan, Loveland, Fort Collins and Longmont (just to name a few) so it is possible to dance several times a week, if you want!
Today, modern square dancing is NOT just what you learned in school--a do-si-do, a left allemande and promenade. There is much more to it which makes it much more fun, especially since now that we don't mind holding hands with another person! Women are not required to wear full skirts with petticoats; dancers today wear a variety of clothing. In addition, callers use songs from almost every genre of music, so it's not just for country music lovers.
We hope you will make an effort to try something new and healthy. If you want to know more, feel free to call or write to anyone on our contact page.

The Merry Mixers Board
The Merry Mixers is guided by an executive board made up of 7 positions. These positions may be held by a couple or an individual. Each board member serves a 2-year term and the election of the 7 offices is staggered each year--3 positions elected one year and 4 the next year. This board meets monthly to discuss and decide on issues and policies that affect the club.

Club Members
Of course, the Merry Mixer club members are the most important part of this club. Without their enthusiastic participation in club activities, there would be no club for the board to serve. We thank all our members for making this such a great club and the photo to the left demonstrates this fact a thousand fold!

Lessons Mainstream (beginner) square dance lessons are required in order for anyone who has not participated in this activity before, to be able to dance at a regular square dance. The lessons themselves are a great way to get out, have a good time and meet some fun, new people. You do not have to have a partner because many of the current Merry Mixers (we call them angels) volunteer their time to be a partner and to help students learn the calls each week. This type of dancing is not difficult--if you can follow directions (the caller always tells us what to do) and walk, you can square dance. Coming to lessons is like coming to your own little dance every week and that is a lot of fun, right there! |
Next Session We are teaming up with Foot and Fiddle in Johnstown to provide instruction to interested couples singles and families. Then on Wednesday the 14th, lessons begin and will go every Monday and Wednesday evening at 6:30 for about 8 to 10 weeks. |

WELCOME to our website!
Our club is a modern square dancing club and we have regular square dances every 2nd Saturday of the month, from September through May.
We also host lessons for beginner square dancers.
We are team ing up this season with Foot and Fiddle to offer lessons to our friends and neighbors in Weld County.
Click on the Lessons menu item to see when the next session begins.
Our regular dances are held at the Greeley Active Adult Center at 1010 6th Street in Greeley.
We have pre-rounds at 6:00 and Mainstream squares at 6:30, with 1 or 2 plus tips during the night.
Our dances almost always have a fun theme to which many dancers enjoy wearing clothes that match each theme.
This is not required and purely an option for all.
We host a lot of different callers and cuers from our area, as well as some national callers.
Please check out our events calendar below to see a full list of this season's dances, including theme, caller and cuer.
Also, we love new dancers, so check out the "Lessons" link below to find out when our next class will begin!
