ABOUT US
The Merry Mixers Square Dance Club is a social, non-profit organization that supports and promotes the activities of square and round dancing. Both of these types of dancing are offered at our regular dances, which are held on the 2nd Saturday, September through May. The club also offers beginner square dance lessons in order to keep our membership fluid and enthusiastic.
The club was founded in 1952, by Frank and Maxine Simpson. They taught between 8 and 12 coupes how to square dance in their basement for years. Frank also became a caller and taught many other callers throughout his career. The club has gone through many changes and many, many dancers in these past 60 years, and our current membership reflects a wide variety of ages, professions and personalities, which is what makes it FUN!
Square dancing is a world-wide activity, so no matter where you are--new area, state or country-- you can find a dance and meet new people. Here in this area, there are clubs in Fort Morgan, Loveland, Fort Collins and Longmont (just to name a few) so it is possible to dance several times a week, if you want!
Today, modern square dancing is NOT just what you learned in school--a do-si-do, a left allemande and promenade. There is much more to it which makes it much more fun, especially since now that we don't mind holding hands with another person! Women are not required to wear full skirts with petticoats; dancers today wear a variety of clothing. In addition, callers use songs from almost every genre of music, so it's not just for country music lovers.
We hope you will make an effort to try something new and healthy. If you want to know more, feel free to call or write to anyone on our contact page.
