SOUTHEAST AREA SQUARE DANCE COUNCIL

FACT SHEET

The Southeast Area Square Dance Council, comprised of twenty counties, was established in 1956.

It is one of four districts in the Colorado State Square Dance Association.

These four councils currently sponsor special area dances
and host the state Association for their meetings and annual festivals.

The Council meets on the third Sunday afternoon in the months of January, March, May, July, September and November.

New officers are elected each year.

Representatives from the member clubs are the council members.

Listed below are some of the Southeast Area Square Dance Council’s yearly concerns:
1. The SEASDC serves as an intermediary for news and announcements to and from the
Colorado State Square Dance Association.

Among other things this allows YOUR CLUB’S SPECIAL DANCES to be listed not only on the
Colorado State Square Dance Web Site
but also in a national news bulletin, if you so choose.

2. The SEASDC prepares a roster annually with every member club’s officers, callers and date of dances.
This roster is available at all Council meetings and contains especially helpful information for those
clubs who “banner steal”.

3. The SEASDC prepares a “Summer Square Dance Schedule” with YOUR club’s June, July and August
dance schedules. It distributes these flyers to numerous tourist booths and Chambers of Commerce
throughout the area.

4. The SEAC distributes to YOUR BEGINNER CLASS GRADUATES a free “Promenading in the Rockies”
booklet. This booklet is updated annually by the Colorado State Square Dance Association. It is filled
with good historical background and current information for YOUR recent graduates.

5. The SEAC prepares a bi-monthly “Newsletter” with YOUR club’s dance schedules and articles. This
newsletter also informs you of activities on the state level and other miscellaneous information.

6. The SEAC sponsors an annual “Jamboree” which encourages YOUR club to participate in dancing for
several hours to a variety of callers at a nominal cost. It also gives YOUR recent graduates a
wonderful opportunity to “taste” the square dance world. The Jamboree is rotated throughout the
Council area so that all dancers may enjoy it.

7. The SEAC attempts throughout the year to promote and encourage square dancing by participating
in various activities. It endeavors to establish good fellowship among the various callers, clubs and
groups in the Council area.
